Optimization of the IR90/95 rolling stock, Melchior Carrier
Supervision: Lea Ricard, Prunelle Vogler, Michel Bierlaire
The IR90/95 lines are long-distance SBB services connecting Geneva Airport to Brig. These two lines, considered a backbone of public transport in French-speaking Switzerland, have experienced significant traffic growth in recent years.
These two lines operate with a heterogeneous rolling stock (locomotives and carriages). Based on the 2025 timetable, the objective is to establish an optimal rolling stock rotation (common to both lines, IR90 and IR91) by ensuring the best possible train capacity according to the estimated passenger demand, while adhering to operational constraints (e.g., available rolling stock, maximum platform length, etc.).
